In the month of August, Alicante and its province become a meeting point for those who want to enjoy a diverse and high-quality cultural and festive program. From music festivals featuring renowned artists to traditional celebrations of great heritage value: this month is an excellent opportunity to experience the vitality and cultural richness of the Alicante region. Below is a selection of the main confirmed events for August 2025.
Traditional Festivals and Folk Celebrations
One of the most emblematic celebrations in the province is the August Festival of Elche, taking place from August 1 to 15. This program includes performances of the Misteri d’Elx, declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO, and the traditional Nit de l’Albà on August 13, featuring a palm-shaped firework display launched from the Basilica of Santa María that reaches heights of up to 300 meters. Other key events include the Nit de la Roà on August 14 and the solemn Festa on August 15, the Feast of the Assumption. Additionally, the Moors and Christians parades take place between August 8 and 12, accompanied by concerts, performances, and activities for all ages throughout the festive period.
In the city of Alicante, the Altozano neighborhood also celebrates its own Moors and Christians festivals during the second week of August, with parades, music bands, and religious acts in honor of the Virgin Mary. The patron saint festival of the Los Ángeles neighborhood is also noteworthy, running from July 28 to August 2, featuring a procession of the Virgin on August 2, as well as barracas and street parties.
Music Festivals and Concerts
The music program in the city of Alicante stands out this year thanks to the “Summer of Music” cycle, which continues until August 17 at the City Hall Square, offering 18 free concerts of various genres such as jazz, pop, flamenco, and world music. Simultaneously, the Vertical Garden of Las Cigarreras organizes a jazz and blues cycle every Friday of the month with free admission.
In Jávea, a new edition of the Xàbia Jazz Festival will be held, featuring national and international jazz artists in a unique cultural and natural setting.
One of the most prestigious festivals is “Noches Mágicas”, taking place from July 24 to August 10 at the Jardines de Abril in Sant Joan d’Alacant. This edition features performers such as Bebe (July 27), Sara Baras (July 31), El Kanka (August 3), Tony Hadley (August 8), Iván Ferreiro (August 9), and Bonnie Tyler (closing the festival on August 10).
Regarding individual concerts, the August music agenda includes performances at various venues in Alicante and Elche. Notable names include Kool & The Gang (August 6), Tom Jones (August 13), Camela (August 8), Medina Azahara (August 7), Antoñito Molina (August 15), Maka (August 16), and La Bouche (August 23). Concerts are primarily held at Área 12 (Rabasa Multiespacio), the Alicante Bullring, and municipal venues in Elche.
Performing Arts and Open-Air Theater
The ManIAC Fest returns this year with a performing arts program combining theater, dance, magic, and contemporary circus. The festival takes place from August 8 to 17 in several Alicante municipalities, including Agres, Torremanzanas, Alicante, Guardamar del Segura, and Alfafara. In the city of Alicante, the shows “Zarabanda” and “Seu-te” will be presented on August 9 and 16 in urban cultural spaces.
Outside the province, but easily accessible from Alicante, the “Sagunt a Escena” festival stands out. It takes place from July 31 to August 23 at the Roman Theater of Sagunto. The program features a carefully curated selection of classical and contemporary plays, such as The Two Gentlemen of Verona and Electra, as well as national dance, music, and interactive performances.
Sports and Special Events
Sports also have their place this summer. From August 12 to 14, the International Handball Tournament “City of Alicante” will be held at the Pitiu Rochel Pavilion. Three teams are participating: Horneo EÓN (Alicante), CD Agustinos (Alicante), and MT Melsungen from the German Bundesliga. All matches start at 9:00 PM. Admission is free for Horneo EÓN season ticket holders; a general 3-day pass costs €25.
